Expanded form shows the value of each digit. For 345: the digit 3 stands for 300, the digit 4 stands for 40, and the digit 5 stands for 5. So we write:
345 = 300 + 40 + 5

Comparing Multi-Digit Numbers
Understanding Number Comparison
When we compare numbers, we’re looking to see which number is greater than, less than, or equal to another number.
How to Compare Multi-Digit Numbers
Follow these steps to compare numbers:
- Start with the largest place value (leftmost digit)
- Compare digits from left to right
- When digits differ, the number with the larger digit is greater
- If all digits are the same, the numbers are equal
Example: Compare 347 and 352
Both numbers have 3 hundreds, so we look at the tens place. 4 tens is less than 5 tens, so 347 < 352.
