What is expanded form?

Expanded form shows the value of each digit. For 345: the digit 3 stands for 300, the digit 4 stands for 40, and the digit 5 stands for 5. So we write:

345 = 300 + 40 + 5

  1. Find the hundreds place (3 → 300).
  2. Find the tens place (4 → 40).
  3. Find the ones place (5 → 5).

Comparing Multi-Digit Numbers

Understanding Number Comparison

When we compare numbers, we’re looking to see which number is greater than, less than, or equal to another number.

> Greater Than
< Less Than
= Equal To

How to Compare Multi-Digit Numbers

Follow these steps to compare numbers:

  1. Start with the largest place value (leftmost digit)
  2. Compare digits from left to right
  3. When digits differ, the number with the larger digit is greater
  4. If all digits are the same, the numbers are equal

Example: Compare 347 and 352

3
4
7
vs
3
5
2

Both numbers have 3 hundreds, so we look at the tens place. 4 tens is less than 5 tens, so 347 < 352.

Solved Questions
