Introduction to Time: Clock Basics
Learning About the Hour Hand
What is a Clock?
A clock helps us know what time it is. Clocks have numbers and hands.
The Hour Hand
The short hand is called the hour hand. It points to the hour.
When the hour hand points to a number, that tells us what hour it is.
For example: If the hour hand points to 3, it is 3 o’clock.
